Piers Morgan has undergone hip replacement surgery after falling and being taken to a hospital in the U.K.

Morgan, 60, posted details to the X platform on Sunday, Jan. 18, saying he “tripped on small step” at a hotel restaurant in London, and fractured his femur “so badly I needed new hip.”

The controversial media personality included a picture of himself resting in a hospital bed and giving a thumbs up.

“New Year off to a cracking start!” Morgan wrote jokingly and added, “I blame Donald Trump.”

The former CNN anchor and America’s Got Talent judge had an oxygen tube around his nose and a needle inserted in one of his hands.

Doctors told him he’ll have to use crutches for six weeks and cannot travel on long hauls for 12 weeks, he shared. Some of Morgan’s followers wished him a “speedy recovery.”

The femur is a leg bone between the hip and knee. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it takes ” tremendous force” to break a femur, which requires months to heal. The clinic says a broken femur is “very painful.”

The former British tabloid editor anchored CNN’s Piers Morgan Live from 2011–2014. He returned to the U.K. and landed a job as a co-host on the ITV network morning show Good Morning Britain, where he worked from 2015–2021.

ITV cut ties with Morgan just hours after he stormed off the set during a heated debate about Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

As previously reported, Morgan’s co-host called him “diabolical” for dismissing Markle’s complaints about racism while living in the U.K. On March 9, 2021, ITV released a statement saying Morgan had “left his role” after the network “received more than 41,000 complaints.”

The media personality currently hosts a popular YouTube streaming talk show titled Piers Morgan Uncensored.

In October 2024, Morgan issued an apology to Jay-Z and Beyoncé after a guest on the online show made explosive claims about the superstar couple and their ties to now-imprisoned music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
