The Pan African Film Festival has canceled tonight’s red carpet for Little Woods starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James, the festival announced today.

The red carpet press line for the Nia DaCosta-directed film had been scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. in Los Angeles. The festival sent out a press release this morning saying the arrivals line for its centerpiece event was being scrapped.

When contacted, a spokesperson said weather is to blame, with rain expected throughout the evening in Los Angeles. The spokesperson added that DaCosta would be available for press interviews after the screening.

Set in economically depressed North Dakota, Little Woods tells the story of Ollie and Deb, two sisters driven to work outside the law to better their lives.

Thompson stars as Ollie, who was adopted as a child and turns to drug dealing as an adult to help support the family, including her terminally ill mother. Luke Kirby, Lance Reddick and James Badge Dale also star. The Neon distributed film has been playing the festival circuit and is slated to open in select theaters on April 19.

It was unclear if Thompson will be attending tonight’s PAFF screening. The actress recently starred in Sorry to Bother You and Creed II, and also has a role in Men in Black: International, which is slated to open in
in June. MIB: International co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Liam Neeson, who continues to make headlines for his recent comments about race.
