Obamas Shut Down Divorce Rumors During Podcast Interview

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are speaking out about recent rumors surrounding their marriage.

For months, tabloids have reported the two are divorcing. In April, RadarOnline even claimed they had “settled on a deal to divide their sprawling $70 million fortune.”

The former president responded with a joke, when he joined his wife and brother-in-law Craig Robinson on the Wednesday, July 16 episode of their “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” podcast.

“She took me back!” Mr. Obama said as he walked on set. “It was touch and go for a while.”

The conversation included a listener question about raising emotionally intelligent young men.

Obama opened up about how being raised by a single mother helped shape his definition of manhood. He also shared how a moment in Indonesia taught him the value of self-sufficiency.

At one point, Craig said it was “nice to have you both in the same room together.” Michelle quickly replied, “I know because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”

Rumors about the couple’s relationship picked up earlier this year after Obama attended President Trump’s inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral without his wife.

Robinson recalled a moment when a woman approached him at an airport to ask, “What did he do?”

“These are the kinds of things that I just miss,” Obama reacted to Robinson’s story. “So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on and then somebody will mention it to me and I’m like what are you talking about?”

Michelle replied, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I’ve thought about quitting on my man. And we’ve had some really hard times and we’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”

“Okay, don’t make me cry now, right at the beginning of the show,” Obama said.

Back in April, Michelle also addressed the rumors on actress Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast, indicating that she was making more choices for herself.

She explained that she missed Carter’s funeral because she was on vacation in Hawaii and didn’t attend Trump’s event because she’s “no phony,” making it clear, she’s not on board with MAGA.

The Obamas have been married since 1992 and have two daughters together, Malia and Sasha.
