Honey! It’s Like That! Mariah Carey is bringing that Mariah sound to the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer/songwriter will receive the coveted Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs on Sept. 7, the network announced Thursday in a press release.

“The best-selling female artist of all time returns to the VMAs stage for the first time in 20 years, with a full circle moment to accept the same award she presented to LL Cool J in 1997,” MTV said.

LL Cool J is hosting the ceremony live from New York’s UBS Arena, and Mariah will perform a “career-spanning medley of her biggest hits.”

Other performers include Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, J Balvin ft. DJ Snake, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Carpenter, and sombr.

Known for her stylish videos including “Honey,” “It’s Like That,” “Heartbreaker,” “Obsessed,” “Touch My Body” and “Breakdown”(just to name a few), the five-time Grammy winner has sold over 220 million albums worldwide, and scored 19 Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles (18 of which she wrote).

Mariah is not done and has a 16th studio album titled Here for It All dropping on Sept. 26. The album includes the new single “Type Dangerous,” which is up for Best R&B video at the VMAs.

The singer made her VMAs debut in 1991 when she performed “Emotions,” for the first time at an awards show.

In 1998, she and Whitney Houston opened the show in an iconic pop culture moment when the two “accidentally” wore the same dress. Carey last performed on the VMAs in 2005.

Previous Michael Jackson Vanguard Award recipients include Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott. David Bowie, The Beatles and director Richard Lester shared the honor at the first-ever VVMAs in 1984.

This year’s awards air coast-to-coast on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT on CBS, MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.
