The holiday season will bring a family reunion, secrets and surprises via the film Unexpected Christmas.
Comedian Lil Rel Howery and social media personality Tabitha Brown lead the cast of the dramedy, which arrives in theaters Nov. 7.
The story follows the Scott family as they gather for a Christmas reunion organized by matriarch Momma Scott (Anna Maria Horsford), but things don’t quite go as planned because of relationship drama.
Momma Scott’s daughter Marissa (DomiNque Perry) returns home after breaking up with her boyfriend Richard (Lil Rel Howery). A shameless Richard still attends the gathering and arrives arm-in-arm with Marissa’s estranged stepsister Kerry (Reagan Gomez-Preston).

Marissa invites a surprise guest of her own, stirring up gossip, while Kerry cooks up a shocking scheme.
“Add in a few romantic mix-ups, old rivalries, and plenty of family secrets, and everyone is in for an unforgettable holiday. With love, laughter, and a little bit of chaos around every corner, this Christmas might just bring the Scotts closer together — or blow the roof off the house!” the official description reads.
The ensemble cast also includes Terrence Terrell, Trell Woodberry, Ricco Ross, Koryn Hawthorne, Cece Friday, and Howie Bell.
Lil Rel Howery and Tabitha Brown serve as executive producers on the film.
Howery previously had roles in One of Them Days, Get Out, Good Burger 2, and his own Fox network comedy series Rel.
Brown has had parts on The Chi, The Conners, The Upshaws, and won an Emmy Award for hosting the educational YouTube series Tab Time.
“This movie and this cast is so special and will be the holiday movie everyone will be talking about,” Lil Rel said in a statement.
Tabitha added, “Unexpected Christmas is relatable, and hilarious, but will truly be a gift for all families this holiday season!”
The upcomimg film is written by Cassandra Mann and directed by Michael Vaughn Hernandez. 3 Diamonds Films and Eammon Films are the distributors, tasked with getting the movie into theaters.
