Janelle James is taking on stand-up with her first comedy special.
Netflix announced details on Monday, Oct. 19, saying the hour-long special titled Janelle James: How Romantic will begin streaming Nov. 10.
Best known for playing outspoken principal Ava Coleman on ABC’s Abbott Elementary, James will tackle money, relationships and the battle of the sexes in the new comedy offering.
“In her debut hour-long stand-up special, Janelle James covers everything from body counts, bank accounts and why women should wrestle men,” according to the official description.
The special is written and performed by James, who also serves as executive producer. Marcus Russell Price directs, with Matt Schuler serving as producer.
The NAACP Image Award-winning actress has become a fan favorite on Abbott Elementary, where Ava’s outrageous comments and questionable leadership often leave the teachers dealing with more than their students.
Her other credits include It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and voice roles on the animated The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and Super Duper Bunny League.
