After picking up the award for best cinematic and box office achievement on Sunday night at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, Coogler praised fans for supporting the blockbuster.
“I just want to thank the audience for showing up,” he said.
The writer-director was joined on stage by the movie’s cast and producers.

He said filming around the swamps of Louisiana was grueling. But knowing the thriller would be released in theaters — instead of on a streaming platform — made the project more special.
“It was an honor on this movie to know that it was getting a theatrical release. We would remind people every day, in the dog days of summer in New Orleans — we would say, ‘Hey, big movie. People are going to see this — big theater,’” he shared.
He added that the film’s success “meant the world to us.”
Sinners opened to critical acclaim in April 2025, and topped the box office. To date, the Warner Bros. release has earned $368.2 million worldwide, including $280 million in the U.S. and Canada alone, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The brothers return to their Mississippi hometown for a fresh start, but are confronted by a supernatural evil.
Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo round out the main cast. The film’s composer, Ludwig Goransson, picked up the Golden Globe for best original score.
The ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, with comedian Nikki Glaser serving as host.
One Battle After Another was the night’s big winner after picking up four awards — best motion picture musical or comedy; best female supporting actor in a film for Teyana Taylor who gave a heartfelt speech; best director for Paul Thomas Anderson; and best screenplay for Anderson.
The Netflix drama Adolescence dominated the television categories with four awards, including best limited series.
