Tom Cruise undergoes a dramatic transformation in the trailer for the upcoming film Digger.
Warner Bros. released a first look at the highly anticipated film on Monday, July 13. The video shows Cruise turning in a wild performance as Digger Rockwell, an aging oil tycoon determined to save humanity from a global catastrophe of his own making.
The trailer hints at a worldwide ecological disaster, with melting glaciers, powerful winds, and the potential release of nuclear waste.
The official synopsis reads: “The most powerful man in the world races to prove he’s humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.”

The all-star cast includes Emmy winner John Goodman, Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons. Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman and Sophie Wilde also have roles in the film.
The dark comedy is directed by Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman), who co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman.
Oscar-winning makeup and hair designer Alessandro Bertolazzi teamed up with Oscar-winning prosthetic makeup designer Kazu Hiro to transform Cruise into the nearly unrecognizable Digger Rockwell.
The movie was filmed entirely in VistaVision, a high-resolution 35mm format originally developed in 1954, Warner Bros. said in a press release Monday.
Digger opens nationwide on Oct. 2, with an international rollout beginning Sept. 30.
