Dave Chappelle is back with a “freewheeling” stand-up special set to debut on New Year’s Eve.

Netflix unveiled the title of the special — Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer — this week.

Along with the announcement, the streamer released a new teaser trailer. There were no jokes in the 30-second preview, just a narration from Morgan Freeman encouraging viewers to dream big.

“What do you dream about? Not the dreams you have in your sleep, the ones you hold in your heart,” Freeman said in a voiceover. “Don’t be intimidated by the audacity of your dream — be inspired by it.”

This is the comedian’s first special since The Closer in 2021, which touched off protests by LGBTQ activists. Adding to the drama surrounding Chappelle’s brand of comedy, the comic was physically attacked during a performance at the “Netflix Is A Joke” comedy festival in Los Angeles in May 2022, as previously reported.

Now the comedian is ready to talk about the assault, along with Will Smith, Chris Rock and the March 2022 Oscars slap.

“From his onstage tackle to the slap heard round the world, Dave Chappelle lets loose in this freewheeling and unfiltered stand-up comedy special,” according to the official description.

The stand-up show was filmed at Lincoln Theatre in Chappelle’s hometown of Washington, D.C.

Stan Lathan, who directed all of the comedian’s other specials for Netflix, returns to helm this latest project.

Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer premieres globally Sunday, Dec. 31, on Netflix.
