Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Florida) was assaulted by a man yelling “racist remarks” at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Friday night.

Frost, who is Black, posted details about the incident on the X platform, and said the man was arrested a short time later.

“I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face,” Frost wrote Saturday. “He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay.”

The assault happened at a party hosted by Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Puck News co-founder Matthew Belloni wrote on X that several people witnessed the attack.

“Multiple people at the CAA party saw the congressman get punched in the face before security intervened,” he posted.

The Park City Police Department identified the suspect as Christian Joel Young, 28. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official, and assault, ABC News reported.

Young is being held without bail after a judge said he poses a “substantial danger” to the community and “is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court if released on bail.”

The Sundance Film Festival released a statement to the media distancing itself from the attack, saying the incident “occurred at a non-Festival-affiliated event.”

“The safety and security of our festival attendees is always our chief concern, and our thoughts are with Congressman Frost and his continued well-being,” the statement read. “We encourage anyone with additional information on this matter to contact the Park City Police Department.”

According to published reports, Young jumped a fence and crashed the CAA party.

Frost, 29, was elected in 2022 by voters in Florida’s 10th Congressional District, which includes Orlando.

According his website, he is of Haitian, Puerto Rican and Lebanese descent and was adopted at birth. Frost is the first Gen Z member of U.S. Congress.

Sundance 2026 runs from Jan. 22–Feb. 1 in Park City, Utah. An online, at-home portion runs Jan. 29–Feb. 1, for audiences across the country.
