Urban Hollywood 411 was on the red carpet. Brandy declined interviews with the media, but Sy’Rai shared her experience working on a movie for the first time.
“I loved everything about it,” she said. “It was a really good experience to work with mom and so many other amazing actors and actresses. I was nervous as crap though, I’m not going to lie!”
Brandy executive produces and leads the cast as Francine “Fancy” Ballantine, a fashion designer juggling her career and family obligations. Her mother’s health is failing and her father has passed away, but Fancy remains determined to continue her dad’s Christmas traditions.
Despite the challenges in her life, Fancy finds herself unexpectedly drawn to handsome contractor Jaylen (Robert C. Riley).
Debbi Morgan, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, and Melissa Kurland also have roles in Christmas Everyday.
The movie is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios (FES) and Motion Entertainment for Lifetime, and will feature Brandy’s song “Christmas Everyday.”
Dr. Holly Carter, who produces faith-based projects including the BET+ series Kingdom Business, is one of the executive producers on the film.
Carter told us she and Brandy had been looking for a project they could collaborate on and decided to make a Christmas movie. Carter’s daughter, Journey Carter (Kingdom Business), has a role in the movie as well.
Sy’Rai said as soon as her mom mentioned joining the film’s cast, she started putting in work.
“I got right into acting classes. I wanted to be above and beyond what they would have expected,” she told Urban Hollywood 411. “Obviously, I wanted to train. I went to the gym a lot. Definitely just did a lot to prepare myself.”
The up-and-coming actress and singer also talked about her mom’s tour with fellow R&B songstress Monica, and said there’s absolutely no tension between the two singers. In fact, Sy’Rai referred to Monica as her aunt multiple times.
“They love each other… It’s beautiful to see them reunited and back together. And you know, they’re just a beautiful pair,” she said.
