Hundreds of John Legend fans got an early Christmas present — a free holiday concert at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
Legend surprised his Twitter followers on Tuesday by announcing he would be performing a concert in a matter of hours at the train station. Fans descended on the facility, with commuters and tourists also getting a chance to attend the event after workers inside Union Station handed out tickets.
The Grammy-winning singer, who was recently named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” sang songs from his Christmas album and filmed a music video.
According to local media reports, about 500 people got a chance to hear the crooner sing. Legend said everyone in the audience would also be featured in his next music video.
The pop-up show was organized by SiriusXM as part of its “Dial Up the Moment” holiday campaign. SiriusXM is planning additional shows in New York, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. The company said in a press release the goal is to “bring surprising and exciting moments to the streets.”
In addition to Legend, the shows will feature country musician Jason Aldean and others. The times and locations of the performances will be announced on social media shortly before each event.
Los Angeles news station CBSLA recorded Legend’s concert. You can watch the video here.
