Omari Hardwick is moving to the other side of the law for the upcoming series Bosch: Start of Watch.

The actor, who is best known for playing crime boss James “Ghost” St. Patrick on Power, takes on the role of a veteran cop in the MGM+ prequel series

The network released first-look images on Thursday, Oct. 29, giving viewers a preview of Hardwick alongside Cameron Monaghan, who plays a young Harry Bosch.

Hardwick co-stars as Eli Bridges, Bosch’s training officer who helps shape the future detective during his early days on the job.

It’s a change of pace for fans who watched Hardwick spend six seasons as Ghost, the drug kingpin whose attempts to build a legitimate life kept colliding with his criminal empire. Now he’s wearing the badge as the Bosch franchise turns back the clock.

Hardwick also has another major role ahead. He plays Muhammad Ali’s father, Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr., in Prime Video’s new series The Greatest.

After 10 seasons of Titus Welliver playing Detective Harry Bosch on Prime Video’s popular Bosch and spinoff series Bosch: Legacy, Monaghan (Shameless and Gotham) takes on the role as the rookie cop.

The new eight-episode series begins in 1992 Los Angeles. Monaghan’s Bosch is learning to navigate police work in a city simmering with racial tension, gang violence and distrust of the LAPD.

The setting places the story in a pivotal year for the city, that saw the acquittal of four LAPD officers found not guilty of using excessive force in the videotaped beating of Black motorist Rodney King. The verdict sparked outrage and unrest that left dozens of people dead.

As the city simmers, routine calls on the new series open the door to a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption. Bosch’s experiences will test his loyalty to the badge and help his personal code: “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”

The cast also includes Ariana Guerra and JD Pardo as Rosa and Cory. Additional cast members are Kathleen Wilhoite, William Fichtner, Rafi Gavron, Raphael Sbarge and Shelli Boone.

Like the rest of the Bosch franchise, the series is inspired by Michael Connelly’s bestselling books.

Produced by Fabel Entertainment, Bosch: Start of Watch was co-created by Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony. Bernardo serves as showrunner, with Connelly among the executive producers.

The prequel is set to premiere Sunday, Jan. 10, 2027, on MGM+ with two episodes. New episodes will follow weekly through the Feb. 21 finale.
