‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Finds Its ‘Young Jarita’

Power Book III: Raising Kanan has cast a love interest for Kanan Stark.

Starz announced Friday, July 3, actress Asjha Cooper (Chicago Med and All American) joins the cast of the crime drama in the fifth and final season.

Cooper was introduced to audiences as “Tiana,” a call girl working for Flossie Siegel (Leslie Grossman). On the July 3 episode of the series, she told Kanan her real name is “Jarita.”

The actress will continue in the role throughout the season before moving to a series regular role on the upcoming Power: Origins, which is currently filming in New Jersey.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is a prequel  to the hit Starz drama, Power, and explores Kanan’s journey from an innocent teenager into a ruthless drug kingpin, influenced by his mother’s manipulation. MeKai Curtis leads the cast in the title role.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson played Kanan on the original series. Tasha Smith portrayed the adult version of Jarita on three episodes of Power, according to the show’s IMDb page.

The upcoming Power: Origins will continue the origin stories of Kanan, James “Ghost” St. Patrick, and Tommy Egan as they make their mark on the streets of New York City.

In addition to Cooper, the cast for the new series includes Spence Moore as Ghost and Charlie Mann as Tommy. MeKai Curtis will reprise the role of Kanan.

Additional cast members are Zuri Reed as Tasha. Lenny Platt plays Lenny Seidell, a fitness entrepreneur who deals in steroids and is always looking for new partners.

Armani Gabriel plays J-Boogs, a smart foot soldier with an eye for the game. Everett Osborne has a role as Omay Moreau, an NFL star with ties to the criminal world.

Power: Origins will mark the fourth spinoff in the Power Universe following Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force, which concluded earlier this year.

Lionsgate Television is producing the new series for Starz. Longtime Power producer Sascha Penn serves as showrunner and executive produces the series.

The first season will consist of 18 episodes.
