First Morris Day, now Young MC is busting a move away from a Trump-backed concert series marking the country’s 250th birthday.
Organizers announced the lineup for “Freedom 250 Presents: The Great American State Fair” Wednesday, May 27, on the event website. The announcement said the celebration will run in Washington, D.C. from June 25-July 10.
The list of concert performers included MAGA supporters Vanilla Ice and Bret Michaels, country singer Martina McBride, surviving Milli Vanilli member Fab Morvan, C+C Music Factory, The Commodores, Flo Rida, Morris Day & The Time, and Young MC.

Within hours, Morris Day and Young MC said not so fast — and distanced themselves from the event.
“It’s a no for me,” Day captioned a statement he posted on Instagram Wednesday afternoon, saying “contrary to rumors, Morris Day & the Time will not be performing” at the event.
“Bust a Move” rapper Young MC followed by announcing on Instagram he would be skipping the “politically charged” gathering as well.
“I have informed my agents that I will not be performing at the Freedom 250 event,” Young MC posted.
“The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, Spin magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged,” he added.
The event faced fresh drama this evening when The Commodores and Martina McBride dropped out. In a lengthy statement on Instagram, McBride said she was initially told the event would be “nonpartisan,” but that assurance “turned out to be misleading.”
“I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th,” McBride shared.
The Commodores also made it clear they would no longer be taking part in the event.
“Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party. We support the betterment of all Americans,” the group said in a statement.
The Freedom 250 website doesn’t mention politics and claims the event will be a “celebration of the people and traditions that define our nation.” But according to The Independent, the celebration is funded by “Trump-aligned tech firms” Palantir and Oracle, and federal contractors Deloitte and Lockheed Martin.
The event website also lists Amazon, Comcast NBCUniversal, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Starbucks, Walmart, Target, and the UFC as sponsors.
The New York Times reports planning began years ago on the anniversary celebration, but it’s now taking on a “Trumpian flare.” The outlet revealed anyone donating more than $1 million to Freedom 250 would be invited to a private reception with Trump.
