Netflix has greenlit the new comedy series I Suck at Girls, based on the autobiography of the same name by bestselling author and television producer Justin Halpern ($#*! My Dad Says).

Laila Pruitt (BMF), Kayo Martin (The Plague), and Jeremy Ray Taylor (It) have been cast as the leads in the coming-of-age series, Netflix announced Thursday.

Pruitt played Nicole Flenory, the younger sister of drug kingpins Demetrius and Terry Flenory on the Starz crime drama BMF from 2021 to 2025. The series concluded after four seasons in August 2025, and was canceled in October.

Her former co-stars are also booked and busy. Da’Vinchi, who played Terry Flenory, was announced this week as a main cast member in Tyler Perry’s new Netflix firefighter series Where There’s Smoke. Last month Russell Hornsby, who played family patriarch Charles Flenory, co-starred in the Lifetime film Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy last month.

Pruitt will play high schooler “Anna” on I Suck at Girls. Martin has been cast as “Steven” and Taylor will play “Garrett.”

Per Netflix, the comedy will follow three awkward high school sophomores dealing with teenage romance and identity, as they learn sucking at girls is part of growing up.

Halpern and Patrick Schumacker will serve as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers.

“I’m incredibly excited to make a show that can hopefully capture the funny, emotional and oftentimes humiliating experience of growing up. As opposed to just the emotional and humiliating experience of my life as an adult,” Halpern said in a press release.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Bill Lawrence to bring Justin’s hilariously relatable autobiography, I Suck at Girls, to the screen,” added Tracey Pakosta, vice president of comedy series at Netflix.

“This show captures universal truths about life and relationships with authentic heart and humor, we believe it’s a story audiences will genuinely love and connect with,” Pakosta continued.

Additonal executive producers include Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, and Chet Dave.

The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Halpern and Schumacker’s Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions have overall production deals.

A premiere date will be announced later.
