As the public awaits an update from the LAPD on its investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas, disturbing new details have emerged about the condition of the teenager’s remains.

A new report from Rolling Stone says the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office is looking into the possibility that the 14-year-old’s dismembered body was “refrigerated” before it was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to 20-year-old pop singer D4vd.

A source told the outlet the medical examiner is “exploring” a theory that the remains were frozen or refrigerated before they were transferred to the vehicle.

The report came after TMZ published a story on Saturday, Nov. 22, saying Rivas’ remains were “partially frozen” and had been thawing in the front trunk of the Tesla. The outlet said Rivas’ head was severed and her limbs were “cut into multiple pieces.”

The teenager’s cause of death will most likely be ruled “undetermined” because of the condition of her remains, the outlet reported.

Rivas’ decomposed body was discovered on Sept. 8, when LAPD officers responded to a tow yard in Hollywood after employees noticed a strong odor coming from an impounded Tesla.

Once officers opened the trunk, they found body parts inside a bag.

The medical examiner said Rivas’ cause of death was “deferred” pending additional tests. So far, there’s been no update.

The LAPD is now said to be investigating the case as a homicide, even without an official cause of death.

D4vd, born David Anthony Burke, has not made a public statement about the case.  Several media outlets reported he is “not cooperating” with police.

As previously reported, investigators believe Rivas died in the spring before her 15th birthday in September.

The teenager was from Lake Elsinore, California, about 60 miles from Los Angeles. She had reportedly run away from home several times and was last seen on April 5, 2024.

Her mother told TMZ in September the teen had a boyfriend named David.

Just days ago, details leaked that the LAPD now considers D4vd “a suspect” in Celeste’s death. Investigators with the department’s Robbery Homicide Division are said to also be looking at a second suspect.

D4vd is best known for his viral TikTok hits “Here with Me” and “Romantic Homicide.” He has over a billion streams on Spotify, and released the album Withered earlier this year.

The singer’s Apple Music page describes his music as a combination of “bedroom pop, R&B and alternative rock.”
