Dolly Parton has addressed growing concerns over her health after her sister made comments that sparked worry among fans.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Freida Parton posted on Facebook to explain a previous message in which she asked for prayers for her superstar sister.

“I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” Freida wrote. “She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.”

Earlier that day, Freida shared a more emotional message, writing that she had been “up all night praying” for the country music icon, adding, “Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Oct. 8, Dolly released an update joking that she’s not dead yet.

“Well today is October 8th and obviously I’m here doing some commercials for the Grand Ole Opry, which is why I’m dressed kind of like a country Western girl but before I got started, I wanted to say, I know lately, everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am, do I look sick to you?”, Dolly said.

“I’m working hard here. Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you that seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate—and I appreciate your prayers because I am a person of faith—I can always use the prayers for anything and everything,” she continued. “I want you to know that I’m OK, I’ve got some problems as I mentioned. Back when my husband Carl was very sick, that was for a long time and then when he passed, I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go that I should’ve been taking care of.”

The posts come just over a week after Dolly Parton announced she was postponing her Las Vegas residency due to her health, Dolly: Live in Las Vegas, originally scheduled for December. The six-show run was set to coincide with the National Finals Rodeo from Dec. 4–13.

It’s been a difficult year for the singer, who recently lost her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean.

Dolly Parton’s six-decade career includes 11 Grammy Awards and more than 100 million records sold worldwide. Known for hits like “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “Coat of Many Colors,” she’s among the best-selling artists in history.
