The fallout continues for Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo, after she and husband Eddie Osefo were arrested last week in Carroll County, Maryland on fraud charges.

The two were indicted on Oct. 9, in connection with an alleged insurance fraud scheme.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, a Bravo fan account wrote on Instagram that Wendy had been fired from her job teaching at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, saying students received an email from “the director of Wesleyan.”

But a rep told Us Weekly the reality star resigned.

“Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University. She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university. Dr. Osefo made the voluntary decision to step down from her role,” the rep said. “This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced.”

The RHOP star joined the university in fall 2024. This semester she was teaching a class called “The Sociology of Reality TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia.”

An article published online Tuesday by Wesleyan’s newspaper, The Argus, reported Osefo was on campus teaching on Oct. 8, the day before she was taken into custody.

Students were said to be shocked by her arrest.

“I was literally writing her an email that morning I found out, asking her about an assignment that was supposed to be due this week,” student Barry Zheng told the paper.

The newspaper reported another sociology professor has taken over teaching the class for the rest of the semester.

The RHOP star frequently mentioned her college degrees on the show and insisted she be addressed as “Dr. Wendy,” because she holds a PH.D.

Wendy, 41, joined the cast of RHOP for season 5 in 2020. Eddie, 41, is an attorney and CEO of the cannabis company, Happy Eddie. The two are parents to three children and live near Potomac, MD.

In a 2021 video posted online by Bravo, Wendy offered a tour of her home and called her framed doctorate degree her “pride and joy.”

Later in the video, she yelled at a castmate for not showing her respect. “People like you don’t call me Wendy, people like you call me Dr. Wendy!” she snapped.

The Nigerian-American media personality has been the subject of nonstop news coverage since she and her husband were taken into custody at their home on Oct. 9.

Wendy faces 16 counts, including fraud, conspiracy insurance fraud, and one count of false statement to a police officer. Eddie was charged with 18 counts.

Immediately after their arrests, Bravo pulled an episode of Wife Swap, which featured the couple. The episode was scheduled to air on Oct. 14.

At a news conference the day after the two were arrested, Carroll County’s sheriff and state’s attorney laid out details of the case.

They said the couple filed insurance claims, saying their home was burglarized in April 2024 and more than $400,000 in jewelry and designer handbags were stolen while they vacationed in Jamaica.

Detectives checked the home’s surveillance footage, but could not find evidence of a crime.

Investigators later went through their emails after obtaining a warrant, and found communications between the two discussing the alleged theft.

In one e-mail, detectives said Eddie sent a list of allegedly stolen items to Wendy. The email asked if there were “additional high-value items we can add to this inventory listing… I’m trying to get the total to exceed $423,000, which is our policy maximum.”

Months later, the sheriff’s department executed a search and seizure warrant at the couple’s home, and found at least 15 items that were reported stolen, according to the sheriff.

On Oct. 10, they were released from jail on $50,000 bail.

“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues,” the statement read. “The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”

Wendy and Eddie are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 7, 2025.
