Remember when a report surfaced in October saying Sean “Diddy” Combs would be pardoned within days? It didn’t happen then and President Trump says it’s not happening now.
In a sit-down interview with the New York Times on Jan. 7, Trump said he received a handwritten letter seeking clemency, allegedly penned by Combs.
“Asked me for a pardon… through a letter,” Trump said, adding that he has no plans to grant the request.
Times reporters pressed him for more details and asked when the letter was sent. Trump responded, “Oh, would you like to see that letter?” Although the article says he never showed it to the reporters.
Back on Oct. 20, TMZ reported Trump was “vacillating” on “commuting Diddy’s sentence as early as this week.” The outlet cited an unidentified “high-ranking White House official” as its source.
The report went viral. But the White House immediately shot it down.
“There is zero truth to the TMZ report, which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news,” an unnamed official told NBC News.
TMZ said it stood by its story, although the supposedly imminent pardon never materialized.
Combs, 56, is serving a 50-month sentence at Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey following his conviction last summer on two prostitution-related counts.
He is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2028, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons website.
The mogul’s sons Justin and Christian Combs are working on a documentary series to tell their family’s side of the Diddy story. Zeus streaming network released the trailer on Dec. 28.
The minute-long video shows footage of federal agents raiding their dad’s homes in March 2024, plus the scene ouside the mogul’s trial in Manhattan, and it includes Justin and Christian accepting a collect call from FCI Fort Dix.
Backlash to the video was swift, with some Zeus network subscribers vowing on social media to cancel their subscriptions for platforming the Combs family.
The docuseries will be released sometime in 2026.
