Tracee Ellis Ross has landed a first-look deal to create programming for Fox Entertainment Studios.
Under the multi-year agreement, Ross will executive produce comedies, dramas and animation projects, as well as unscripted shows for Fox via her Joy Mill Entertainment production company.
“Joining the Fox Entertainment Studios family marks an exciting next chapter for Joy Mill Entertainment,” Ross said this week in a statement. “At Joy Mill, our focus is in creating and producing entertaining, culture bending stories centered around identity and joy.”
Fox Entertainment Studios head of scripted content, Hannah Pillemer, and head of unscripted, Allison Wallach, called Ross a creative “force” in a joint statement.
“Her instincts, curiosity and drive make her an exceptionally creative and prolific partner. We’re excited to team up with Tracee and Joy Mill Entertainment to create work that inspires, entertains and reflects the world through their distinctly authentic lens,” the statement read.
Adriana Ambriz, who has served as head of development at Joy Mill since 2020, will continue to lead development efforts under the agreement.
Ross is best known for her role as Dr. Rainbow Johnson on ABC comedy Black-ish, which ran from 2014 to 2022. The role earned the actress a Golden Globe Award and multiple Emmy nominations during the eight-season run. She also executive produced and co-starred in the spinoff series Mixed-ish.
Among her other roles, she led the cast of iconic TV series Girlfriends, co-starred with
Malcolm-Jamal Warner in Reed Between the Lines, and had parts in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Private Practice, as well as the films The High Note, Daddy’s Little Girls, Candy Cane Lane, and the Oscar-winning American Fiction.
Ross most recently hosted and executive produced Roku’s Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross, which the platform says became its most-watched unscripted original series.
The actress and producer additionally serves as co-CEO of Pattern Beauty, a hair and body brand she created in 2019 for the “curly, coily and tight-textured community.”
Ross is represented by Artists First, UTA, Origin Public Relations and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
