The cast of the upcoming faith-based film ‘Tis So Sweet starring Taraji P. Henson and rapper Joey Bada$$ is expanding.
Netflix announced Friday, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard) and Russell Hornsby (BMF) are joining the film.
Ellis-Taylor received an Oscar nomination for King Richard (2021) and also starred in the acclaimed 2024 drama Nickel Boys.
Hornsby is fresh off a four-year run as the family patriarch on Starz crime drama BMF. He also had roles in the Tony-winning Broadway revival and film version of Fences.

Alexis Louder, Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis, and Caroline Avery Granger have been added to the film’s cast as well.
Based on a true story, ‘Tis So Sweet follows Lenore Lindsey, a Chicago bakery owner who is “stunned by a miraculous discovery that challenges her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and find purpose in the unexpected,” according to the official description.
Lenore recently learned Vamarr Hunter, a regular customer at her Give Me Some Sugah bakery, is the biological son she put up for adoption in 1974. DNA tests proved she and Hunter are related.
“It’s the most joyful story and time in my life,” she told ABC7 Chicago in November 2024. “In my senior years, all of this has come together.”
The businesswoman credited God with bringing her together with her son.
The movie about the pair is directed by Tasha Smith from a script written by Randy Brown. Producer DeVon Franklin and director Smith additionally have roles in the film.
Netflix announced Henson had been cast in Tis So Sweet back in October.
The film marks the second feature in Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin’s faith-based production partnership with Netflix, after Ruth & Boaz was released over the summer.
A premiere date for the new movie will be announced later.
