The sequel to Girls Trip has been percolating for years, now Tiffany Haddish is revealing several positive developments.

The comedian and actress, who played “Dina” in the 2017 film, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said the script for the upcoming film had her cracking up.

“We just got the Girls Trip 2 script,” Haddish said in the article published on Sunday, Jan. 18.

“It is, to me, funny. I laughed out loud three times, which is very difficult for me to do, especially off paper, off of reading something. And it made me laugh loud, and hard,” she revealed. “I had to put the script down for a minute and come back to it and laugh. It was really good.”

Girls Trip followed four lifelong friends who called themselves the “Flossy Posse.” Played Haddish, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, and Jada Pinkett Smith, the ladies went on a weekend getaway to a New Orleans music festival.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, from a script written by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, the movie was a runaway hit and earned $140 million at the worldwide box office against a reported $16-$19 million budget.

The cast held a pandemic reunion in 2020, on Pinkett Smith’s digital chat show Red Table Talk. After struggling to figure out how to dial in to a video call, they shared stories about how they were filling their time while isolating, working together and their romantic lives.

As fans wait for the ladies to reunite on screen, Haddish revealed filming is expected to get underway later this year.

“I’ve been told, as of Friday, I heard that they would like to shoot at the end of summer. And we’ll be shooting some of this movie in Africa.”

In 2023, Oliver revealed the team behind the film was “looking to set it in Ghana.”
