The View hosts are expressing alarm about a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn Roe vs. Wade.

Whoopi Goldberg made several comments about the issue on Tuesday’s episode of the daytime talk show.

“Women in this country lived forever with (abortion) being illegal,” Goldberg said. “We got tired of tripping over women in bathrooms, public bathrooms, who were giving themselves abortion because there was nowhere safe, nowhere clean, nowhere to go.”

She urged others to show empathy for any woman considering ending a pregnancy.

“If you’re starting it by telling me I’m gonna burn in hell, then you are not looking out for me as a human being, whether I subscribe to your religion or not, and that is not OK,” she said to applause.

Goldberg’s comments came after news outlets across the country began reporting on a leaked majority opinion draft from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito that indicated Republicans on the high court plan to overturn Roe vs. Wade, a landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that guarantees the right to an abortion in the United States.

This week’s draft immediately ignited intense political discussions, protests in the streets, and fiery comments on The View.

Joy Behar said she first saw the news when she woke up.

“I woke up in the middle of the night to pee,” Behar said, “and saw that people were texting me. I couldn’t go back to sleep, it was that devastating.”

Behar went on to note that the three most recent justices confirmed to the court, all conservatives, indicated at their confirmation hearings that they were not interested in repealing Roe V. Wade. Clips showing the justices comments all played, underscoring her point.

“All these people lied,” Behar said, adding that she believes the country is moving toward “fascism.”

“My worry is that this is just the beginning. Next, they’ll go after gay marriage and maybe even Brown vs. Board of Education? They already eroded our voting rights a little bit. I see fascism down the line here,” she said.
