The Upshaws will return this month for a fifth and final season.
Netflix released new photos and a trailer on Monday, Jan. 5, offering a look at the final episodes.
The preview shows Regina Upshaw (Kim Fields) trying to salvage her struggling campaign for city council after jumping into politics. While her husband Bennie (Mike Epps) finally warms up to his sharp-tongued sister-in-law Lucretia (Wanda Sykes).
“We started this together and we’re going to end this together,” Bennie tells Lucretia before going in for a hug, which she fends off.
Comedian Kym Whitley also makes a cameo in the trailer.

The comedy series follows working class Indianapolis parents Regina and Bennie raising their two daughters (Khali Spraggins, Journey Christine), their firstborn son (Jermelle Simon), and the teenage son (Diamond Lyons) Bennie fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis).
Bennie is a well-intentioned mechanic and lifelong mess doing the best he can to step up for his family.
In June 2025, Netflix announced the show would end after five seasons. The series was created by Wanda Skyes and Regina Hicks — who are also executive producers.
“A heartfelt thanks to Netflix for letting us send off The Upshaws with this fifth and final season. We are excited to give the show and the fans a proper farewell,” Sykes told Netflix blog Tudum.
The final season consists of 12 half-hour episodes.
“Truly grateful to Netflix for giving us this season to once again bring the warmth and funny that we’re known for (and with this fifth and final — some closure) to our Upshaws family,” Hicks said.
In addition to Hicks and Sykes, Mike Epps, Page Hurwitz, and Niles Kirchner are executive producers.
Epps recently appeared on The Breakfast Club and said with the kids growing up, the show reached a natural end. “If you really want to think about it, the kids got grown. We really couldn’t go any further because of that. That’s what they do on these TV shows. When the kids get older, they cut the show off.”
The fifth and final season of The Upshaws premieres on Netflix Jan. 15, ahead of the MLK holiday.
