“Get your s–t and get out!” Teyana Taylor insists while channeling Angela Bassett in a promo for her Saturday Night Live hosting debut.
In the newly released video, Taylor re-creates Bassett’s iconic car-burning scene from the 1995 film Waiting to Exhale — when her character “Bernadine” gets fed up and sets fire to her cheating man’s car and clothes.
The storyline in the SNL promo is a little different. Instead of Taylor being wronged, it’s cast member Ashley Padilla. She’s not quite fed up, but Padilla is annoyed after fellow comic and co-worker Andrew Dismukes swiped her eggplant parmesan before she got to eat the “perfect bite.”
“So your so-called best friend ate your perfect bite?” Taylor asks. “Right!” Padilla tells her.
“He’s gonna regret eating that parm. Let’s go!” Taylor says.
The One Battle After Another star and Padilla head to Dismukes’ dressing room for payback.
Suddenly, Taylor looks different. Gone are her sweat shirt and baseball cap, because she’s dressed just like Bassett’s character in the film — black slip, white robe and flowing hair. She has a bottle of lighter fluid too and torches Dismukes’ stuff.
When he returns to the room, Taylor delivers Bassett’s signature line, telling him to get his “s–t” and go away.
“Yes, Ma’am, right away!” a sheepish Dismukes responds.
Taylor will deliver more comedy this weekend when she hosts the Jan. 24 episode of SNL.
Currently in its 51st season, the sketch-comedy series airs Saturdays on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT and streams live on Peacock.
