‘Survival of the Thickest’ Final Season Adds Star-Studded Guest Cast

The stars are aligning for the third and final season of Michelle Buteau’s comedy series, Survival of the Thickest.

Production is now underway in New York and season 3 will feature a roster of actors, comedians, and fashion industry insiders in guest roles, Netflix announced Thursday, Dec. 11.

Those guest stars include Ice-T (Law & Order: SVU), Wanda Sykes (The Upshaws), D.L. Hughley (The DL Hughley Show), Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show), Wyatt Cenac (Problem Areas), and Ashley Romans (The Pitt).

Also appearing in the new season will be Ashley Graham (Chicago on Broadway), Jenna Lyons (Designer and  Entrepreneur), LaQuan Smith (Designer), and Charles Harbison (Designer).

Marouane Zotti, who had a recurring role in the first two seasons, has been promoted to a series regular for season 3.

In addition to Buteau, the returning cast includes Tone Bell, Liza Treyger, Peppermint, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Anthony Michael Lopez, Garcelle Beauvais, and RonReaco Lee.

In an interview with Netflix blog Tudum, Buteau said season 3 will be “lived in, lived out loud, we’ll tie up and let it loose, honey!”

Inspired by Buteau’s popular book of essays, the series stars the comedian as Mavis Beaumont, a plus-size fashion stylist who is “looking for love, while loving herself,” and building her brand.

The comedian co-created the series with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. For the final season, the two will be stepping behind the camera for their directorial debuts, with Buteau helming episode 5 and Sanchez-Witzel directing episode 3. Kim Nguyen and showrunner Amy Aniobi will also direct.

The series is executive produced by A24 and Anne Hong from Mosaic.

A premiere date for season 3 of Survival of the Thickest will be announced later.
