Rap kingpin Marion “Suge” Knight has made some startling new claims about what happened in the aftermath of Tupac Shakur’s shooting and subsequent death.
Knight and Shakur were driving in Las Vegas after a Mike Tyson fight on Sept. 7, 1996, when they were shot by assailants in a white Cadillac at an intersection.
Speaking to People magazine, Knight — who is currently serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in a 2015 hit-and-run incident — claimed Tupac suffered so much after the shooting that he requested to be killed.
Despite being shot multiple times, he said Tupac was awake and conscious for hours as medical staff tended to his injuries.
“When I came to see him, Pac was sitting up talking. He said, ‘Well, look. One, bring me a blunt. Matter of fact, bring me two blunts.’ And I said, ‘You going to smoke in the hospital?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I am,’” Knight alleged in the July 1 article.
Before the second of two emergency surgeries, one of which removed his right lung to stop internal bleeding, he said Tupac allegedly asked Knight to end his suffering.
Knight claimed Tupac’s mother, the late Afeni Shakur, tried to accommodate her son’s wishes, later insisting on a quick cremation, and that members of the Knight entourage and the mother smoked some of Tupac’s ashes in a blunt.

The wild claims add to the voluminous speculation on what happened and who was behind the shooting. Former Compton gang shot caller Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the only person ever charged in connection in the killing, is scheduled to go on trial in February 2026.
Now age 60, Knight revealed several details of that shooting and its aftermath.
He was behind the wheel of a BMW with Tupac in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries in the shooting and was released after minor treatment.
Tupac was hit in his chest, arm and thigh with four of 13 shots fired.
When he visited Tupac in the hospital, Knight claimed Tupac begged him to be killed, and said that he would make the request on camera, record a will, or even create a song of explanation on his request, acknowledging that Knight would be blamed no matter what.
Both laughed, Knight recalled. But Knight claimed Tupac believed taking his own life would bar him from heaven. So instead, he asked for someone else to do it. “Kill me. Shoot me,” he allegedly asked. Knight refused. “No, Pac. We can’t do it.”
Knight claimed Tupac then turned to his mother, Afeni, and made a similar request. She allegedly gave him pills in an attempt to help him die, but doctors resuscitated him, despite Afeni’s alleged pleas to let her son go.
Tupac died on Sept. 13 at 4:03 p.m. Immediately after, Afeni — who died in May 2016 — insisted her son be cremated. Despite his misgivings, Knight said he agreed, and claims he paid “someone a million dollars cash to take care of it.”
That night, Tupac’s closest friends gathered, and the bag containing his ashes was passed, with some rolled into a blunt and smoked them.
