Star Search, the talent competition that helped introduce the world to Usher Raymond and Britney Spears, is being rebooted by Netflix.

The streaming service announced the news on Tuesday, Nov. 25, saying the revamped series is scheduled to premiere live on Jan. 13. Anthony Anderson has been tapped to host.

Each episode will showcase up-and-coming performers in the categories of music, dance, variety, comedy, magic and juniors — as they compete for a shot at stardom.

The episodes will air live on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with real-time voting to let viewers help decide which contestants will move forward.

The original version of the show aired from 1983 to 1995, with the late Ed McMahon as host.

In addition to Usher and Britney, the show helped launch the careers of Beyoncé, Kevin James, Christina Aguilera, Dave Chappelle, Adam Sandler and many others.

Netflix released a teaser trailer showing the superstar performers back when they appeared on the show.

A relaunched version of the series debuted in 2003 and ran until 2004. After being off the air for 20 years, the series returns with a new generation of aspiring stars.

The updated series is produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment. Executive producers include Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Madison Merritt, Elaine Metaxas. Jason Raff and David Friedman are the showrunners.

Star Search premieres live Jan. 13, 2026 at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM on Netflix.
