Shanice Wilson has a lot to smile about. The R&B singer has new projects on the way and she is cancer free.

Urban Hollywood 411 caught up with the Grammy-nominated artist on Sept. 27, at the Brandon Studios’ fall preview red carpet event in Burbank, California, and she teased her upcoming BET holiday movie.

“It’s going to air on Christmas Day on BET, and it’s called A Soulful Christmas. It’s starring myself and Kenny Lattimore,” Shanice said about the film.

She revealed the movie will feature new music.

“We have a song coming out together too. So I have a Christmas song being released along with the Christmas movie on Dec. 25,” she shared.

Shanice said audiences should expect a fresh take in her new BET film role.

“I don’t want to give too much away. But I know everybody sees me as like, the “I Love Your Smile [singer],” she explained. “But in the movie, you’re gonna see a whole other side of me. So I’m excited that people get to see that.”

The actress and singer has also been starring on stage in 44: The unOFFICIAL, unSANCTIONED OBAMA MUSICAL, playing former first lady Michelle Obama, which we previously reported on when the production premiered in 2022.

“I’m doing more singing and acting. I’m doing both,” she said. “I actually started out doing theater when I was younger, and I was the first African American to play Éponine in Les Miserables on Broadway.”

Her latest projects follow a major health journey. Last year, she revealed she underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with stage 1 ductal carcinoma in situ, an early form of breast cancer.

Then in March 2025, she shared on Instagram that she is now cancer-free.

After that scare, the actress began to speak out publicly about the importance of routine mammograms, admitting she had skipped them for eight years.

The “I Love Your Smile” hitmaker first rose to fame in the early 1990s, climbing to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the R&B chart.

She also contributed to several film soundtracks, including Boomerang, The Meteor Man, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Disney’s Pocahontas.

Shanice attended the Brandon Studios event with her son. The gathering celebrated the platform’s new lineup and brought out stars from Brandon TV shows and supporters.

Walking the red carpet were Little Reunion cast members Christy McGinity and Tonya Reneé Banks; Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors; and singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger.
