Rosie O’Donnell does not approve of Oprah Winfrey attending the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.
The comedian lashed out in a Substack newsletter post that was partially shared on Instagram, saying the nuptials “turned my stomach” at the spectacle of the uber-wealthy gathered for “the gross excess of it all. The show of it.”
Her issue was the opulent Italian wedding of the billionaire Amazon founder and the former journalist.
She asked why Oprah was there. Along with the media mogul, her pal Gayle King attended. The guest list included Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Brady, Kris Jenner, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and many more familiar names.
The 61-year-old Bezos married the 55-year-old Sánchez Bezos during events that reportedly cost $50 million.
O’Donnell’s beef with Oprah was over the “worthless performative nonsense” that the media mogul and others put on in Venice. Of that, O’Donnell said, “We have become numb to gross excess / We have learned to tolerate it / Celebrity worship / Devoid of humanity.”
She also wondered about whether Oprah was actually friends with Jeff Bezos.
“Really – how is that possible. He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man,” she wrote. “Sold his soul. Is what it looks like from here.”
O’Donnell once had a talk show on the OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. It was cancelled after six months.
Perhaps O’Donnell was upset she didn’t get a wedding invite, or maybe it’s for the best.
The bride and groom walked down the aisle at an 18th-century villa outside Milan. Both wore Dolce & Gabbana, according to Vogue, which photographed Sánchez Bezos for an article on her dress. The lace gown featured a high-neck and a tulle-and-lace veil. The bride posted a picture on Instagram.
