Rebecca King-Crews, wife of actor and television host Terry Crews, has for the first time spoken publicly about her private battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Rebecca, 60, sat down for an interview with Today co-host Craig Melvin on Monday, April 6.

With her husband by her side, she revealed she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s more than ten years ago and recently underwent a new FDA-approved procedure to help with the symptoms on one side of her body.

“I feel good. It’s real early in the morning where I live, so I’m a little out of sorts,” the California resident said.

Rebecca said she first noticed something was wrong in 2012. The symptoms started with “numbness” in her left foot and got worse. Now, she is seeing improvements.

“I’m able to write my name and my dates, and I’m able to write with my right hand for the first time in probably three years,” she said. “So, I’m seeing improvement in my symptoms. I’m still in recovery, they say it’s about three months of recovery.”

The new procedure, known as a bilateral focused ultrasound, delivers ultrasound waves to targeted areas on both sides of the brain. Up until recently, it was only approved for one side of the brain.

Terry got emotional while discussing how the procedure has improved the quality of his wife’s life.

“I see this as the beginning of a cure because to watch her go through what she’s going through over the last ten to 12 years has been very, very hard. The tremors, the not sleeping, the loss of balance. Like she said, to watch her write her name for the first time in three years, I don’t know what to say,” he shared while fighting back tears.

Rebecca is scheduled to undergo a second procedure in September to help with tremors on the left side of her body. The singer and fashion designer told Melvin there were two reasons she decided to speak publicly about her diagnosis.

“One is that I don’t believe in telling my story just so you can know my story and feel sorry for me,” she said. “I really believe that this new procedure and others like it are the new frontier of medicine. They were able to go into my brain without cutting me open.”

She added that she wants to raise awareness about new treatment options and “give hope to people with Parkinson’s, because I believe that we’re going to find a cure.”

Terry and Rebecca have been together for 36 years and share five children. In 2020, she told People magazine she had undergone a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Terry praised his wife’s strength in the Today interview.

“She’s the rock of our lives,” the America’s Got Talent host said.
