Police in New York City are one step closer to making an arrest in the hit-and-run death of former Nickelodeon actress Kianna Underwood.

On Monday, Jan. 19, the NYPD found the SUV that struck Underwood as she walked across a street days earlier in Brooklyn, police told CBS New York.

The vehicle is being processed for evidence. But the owner of the Ford SUV told police he was getting an attorney and declined to answer questions. No charges have been filed.

While the vehicle was recorded on surveillance video at the time of the collision, investigators have not yet determined who was behind the wheel when Underwood was fatally struck on Jan. 16.

The NYPD told local media outlets the Ford drove away after hitting Underwood. When she fell to the ground, a sedan struck her again and dragged her down the street before fleeing.

Underwood, 33, was a former child star who had roles on Nickelodeon’s All That and the animated Little Bill. She also had parts in the film The 24-Hour Woman (1999) and the TV movie Santa, Baby! (2001).

The actress had been homeless for the past few years, according to her former All That castmate, Angelique Bates.

Bates made an appeal to the show’s cast on social media in 2023, saying Underwood desperately needed help.

“Why is Kianna Underwood from All That HOMELESS and NONE of us have spoken on it or tried to help her??? One of our own needs help,” Bates captioned a video she posted to Instagram on Nov. 5, 2023.

“I was not aware that she has been in New York, homeless,” she said. “I’m not understanding why no one’s talking about it. I don’t understand why people are being selective with the help they’re giving.”

All That premiered in 1994 and aired for 10 seasons. A revival show debuted with a new cast in 2019.

Original cast members included Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, Katrina Johnson, Alisa Reyes, Josh Server, and Bates.

Bates noted in her video that many of the show’s original stars have continued to work in the entertainment industry, and she asked why no one did anything to help Underwood.

“They’re having revamps and reunions, everything, and nobody is speaking on Kianna Underwood,” she said. “She’s in New York and our corporate office is in New York. That’s what pissed me off even more.”
