The “OWN for the Holidays” movie event returns this year, with three new films centering on love, friendship and Black families.
Now in its seventh year, the network’s annual holiday programming slate will feature a mix of rising talent and familiar faces, including Loretta Devine, Tristan Mack Wilds, Kiki Layne, Amber Stevens West, and Obba Babatunde, OWN announced Wednesday, Oct. 15.
“From the beginning, OWN has led the way in creating holiday movies that reflect the lives, families, and traditions of Black audiences,” Tina Perry, president of OWN, said in a statement. “This year’s premieres continue our commitment to stories that celebrate love, laughter, and the joy of togetherness.”

Fake Yourself a Merry Little Christmas stars Kiki Layne and Etienne Maurice. The film follows reserved professor Maya (Layne), who makes up a story about being in a relationship with an unconscious stranger, and unexpectedly ends up in the stranger’s holiday plans.
“Things are made even more complicated by her undeniable chemistry with Maya’s ‘boyfriend’s’ doctor Daniel (Maurice), who just so happens to be her ex,” according to the official description. Fake Yourself a Merry Little Christmas premieres Saturday, Nov. 29 at 9pm ET/PT.
The Christmas Showdown features Amber Stevens West, Corbin Reid, and Loretta Devine. Obba Babatunde and Carla Renata also have roles in the film.
The movie follows former childhood best friends, April (Reid) and Chastity (Stevens West), who lose contact with each other when April ditches their plan to move to New York, and instead jets off to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming an event producer.
When her career plans hit a snag, April returns home and the two women end up pursuing the same event design job for an upcoming Christmas Eve Spectacular.
“But to impress Hen (Devine), the event producer overseeing the show, they’ll need to mend old wounds and work as a team. What begins as a friendly rivalry, quickly escalates to an all-out holiday showdown,” per OWN. The Christmas Showdown premieres Saturday, Dec. 6 at 9pm ET/PT.
Very Merry Mystery stars Ashleigh Murray and Tristan Mack Wilds. The movie follows beauty shop owner Bea (Murray), who is beloved in her Georgia community.
When she attends a “Christmas Murder Mystery” party, the evening unravels after the host disappears and attendees find a ramson note.
“To solve the crime, Bea must team up with her boyfriend Troy (Mack Wilds), who is also a newly promoted detective,” per OWN. Very Merry Mystery premieres Saturday, Dec. 13 at 9pm ET/PT.
The movies are all produced by Fox Entertainment Studios for OWN.
