Nicki Minaj is one of the most talked-about celebrities on social media right now — not for her music, but because of her politics.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, the “Barbie Dreams” rapper made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s annual AmericaFest conference.
After sitting down for an interview with Erika Kirk, widow of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the rapper praised the MAGA movement, said she has the “utmost respect” for President Trump, and mistakenly called Vice President JD Vance an “assassin.”

Earlier today, the Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper posted a photo collage of herself at the TPUSA event on X, and her fans, known as “Barbz,” quickly chimed in.
While the post did get more than 50,000 likes, some of her loyal fans said they were heartbroken by her shift to the right.

Several users replied to the post with a resurfaced video showing Charlie Kirk bashing Minaj, and telling people at an event she’s not a good role model for “18-year-old Black girls.”
The PatriotTakes X account replied with a video from Kirk’s podcast when he said MLK was a “bad guy,” and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a “mistake.”
Others said Minaj had abandoned the Barbz, many of whom are people of color and or gay.
“Nicki officially cares about Republicans more than the Barbz,” one fan wrote and included a broken heart emoji.
Another included a screengrab of their music playlist showing a note blocking Minaj’s music. “OK, we won’t play music from this artist again,” the note read.
Someone else asked how the rapper could embrace MAGA after showing support for the LGBTQ community by appearing as a guest judge on Rupaul’s Drag Race.
“Doing Drag Race was all for a check? You seemed so accepting while judging those fabulous queens, what has changed?” the person wrote.
Others described the rapper, born Onika Tanya Maraj, as a hypocrite. They noted that she sharply criticized Trump during his first term for his “zero tolerance” family-separation policy.
Back in 2018, the rapper posted a photo on Instagram showing cages used at an immigrant detention center where children were housed after being forcibly removed from parents caught illegally crossing the southern U.S. border.
At the time, Minaj said the administration was inflicting “terror” on children and called for an end to the policy.
“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant at 5 years old,” she wrote via People.
“I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place and having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again,” Minaj added.
The rapper deactivated her Instagram account this week after reportedly losing millions of followers amid backlash for appearing at the TPUSA event.
