As Nicki Minaj continues her shift to the right, the rapper appeared on stage Sunday at a Turning Point USA event touting conservative values.
During a Dec. 21 conversation with Erika Kirk in Phoenix, Arizona, Minaj went full MAGA and called President Donald Trump “handsome, dashing.”
She also mocked California Gov. Gavin Newsom by calling him “Newscum,” a nickname Trump often uses when referring to the Democrat, who is rumored to be eyeing a run for the White House.
The award-winning rapper said the president “has given so many people hope.” She added that thanks to Trump and Vice President JD Vance, “There’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win, and to do it with your head held high.”
But at one point during the conversation, the “Anaconda” rapper made a blunder, by referring to Vance as a killer.
“And you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president,” Minaj said.
The hip-hop star immediately realized the mistake, placed a hand over her mouth, and fell silent.
Her misstep came three months after TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated while speaking to students at Utah Valley University.
Erika Kirk, the conservative commentator’s widow, tried to reassure Minaj and said it was okay because “we know what’s in your heart.”
“You have to laugh about it. Truly, I have been called every single thing, and you know what? God is good,” Kirk said. “You let it roll right off your back, and that is what’s so beautiful about this moment because if the internet wants to clip it, who cares?”
She added about Minaj, “I love this woman. She’s an amazing woman. She has a soul and a heart for the Lord, and words are words.”
When Kirk asked Minaj why she was becoming more politically engaged, the rapper talked about embracing Christianity and said she’d “had enough” of being criticized.
“I just got tired of being pushed around,” Minaj responded. “So when you’ve had enough, you realize, wait a minute, why do I even care about these people and what they think? Who are they? They don’t even know who they are. So I’m not going to back down anymore. I’m not going to back down ever again.”
Minaj wore a turtleneck mini-dress and appeared more demure than she does on stage and at red carpet events.
After she and Kirk left the stage, Vance addressed the audience and said the Trump Administration has “relegated DEI to the dustbin of history.”
Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper Minaj made international headlines last month when she partnered with the Trump administration to raise concerns about the treatment of Christians in Nigeria.
“Nigeria is a place I’ve always loved. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian,” she told Kirk on Sunday.
“I have lots of Nigerian Barbz [fans] and so hearing that … while they’re in church, people are being kidnapped, people are being killed, brutalized, all because of their religion — that should spark outrage,” Minaj added.
