The FBI has released previously unseen surveillance photos and videos of a person of interest in the disappearance of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, the night of Jan. 31.
New images released by the FBI earlier today show an individual walking up to her front door in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, the day she was reported missing.
FBI Director Kash Patel shared the pictures and videos on the X platform, and described the person as “armed.”
Patel included two videos and later added a third, showing a hunched over person approach the door and place a hand over the camera. The person turns around, grabs shrubbery from the front yard, and uses it to cover the camera.
The individual is wearing pants, a jacket, gloves, mask, sneakers and a backpack in the black-and-white pictures and videos. While the person’s face is covered, their eyes are visible through holes in the mask. The person has a weapon secured to the front of their pants.
The #FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. Savannah Guthrie re-posted the photos on her Instagram page and included the caption: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”
Patel said the materials are just now being released because they were “previously inaccessible” after the individual “tampered” with Guthrie’s Nest camera.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners… to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices,” Patel said.
The materials were recovered from data located in “backend systems,” according to Patel.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1. She was last seen around 9:30 p.m. the night before.
Savannah and her two siblings, have released multiple videos pleading for their mother’s release. In a video posted to Instagram on Feb. 7, Savannah said the family would pay a ransom for Nancy’s release.
“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace,” she said. “This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
An alleged ransom note sent to Tucson news station KGUN reportedly demanded $6 million in Bitcoin by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9. The deadline passed with no new details on Nancy’s whereabouts.
Officials have said blood found outside her home tested positive for the mother-of-three. Authorities also noted her pacemaker stopped communicating with a monitoring app early Sunday morning. Family members said she has health problems and needs life-saving medication.
Last week, the FBI announced a $50,000 reward for credible information leading to a rescue or an arrest and conviction in the case.
They urged anyone with information to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit http://tips.fbi.gov.
