NeNe Leakes says her youngest son is improving after he suffered a devastating health setback.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum offered an update on her son Brentt Leakes during an appearance on the July 7 episode of the “Humble Brag“ podcast, hosted by Real Housewives veterans Cynthia Bailey and Crystal Kung Minkoff.
Brentt received a heart transplant in 2024, and has been hospitalized since May because of complications.
“He’s doing a lot better, he’s turned a curve,” NeNe shared. “At 22 he had a stroke and a heart attack. From the stroke, his heart was weak and it never got back strong, so he needed a heart transplant.”
She said his body “started rejecting” the new heart and his doctors are now trying to “stop the rejection.” She also revealed that doctors believe Brentt’s stroke may have been triggered by diabetes.

The reality star was in talks to appear on Season 4 of streaming show The Traitors, but ultimately declined because it would take time away from Brentt, who is the only child she shared with late husband Gregg Leakes. She has an older son, Bryson, from a previous relationship.
“Yes, I was asked to do Traitors,” NeNe confirmed.
She set the record straight about reports that money was the reason she turned down the hit show.
“I couldn’t do Traitors because my son’s in the hospital,” she said.
Since Traitors is filmed in Scotland, traveling there and being so far from home left her with little choice if she wanted to be by Brentt’s side.
The Traitors is a competition in which selected “Traitors” scheme to eliminate the “Faithfuls.” If they make it to the end of the game without being banished, they either win or have more agency to determine the actual winners. The Traitors is streaming on Peacock.
The season 4 cast includes Candiace Dillard Bassett, Lisa Rinna, and Porsha Williams.
