The widow of Malcolm-Jamal Warner has for the first time publicly addressed the actor’s death and identified herself.
Tenisha Warner posted a tribute on Instagram to her late husband, who died in an accidental drowning in Costa Rica on July 20. He was 54.
Tenisha married The Cosby Show star in 2017, but the two kept their relationship private and her identity had not been known publicly.
She shared a photo from their wedding on Friday, Sept. 12, and announced a new foundation in the actor’s honor.
“Thank you for holding us in so much love during this tender time. Tomorrow marks our anniversary — and my heart is wide open,” she began.
She continued, “For the first time, I’m sharing a glimpse of the love that began it all. I can still hear my husband’s laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me — every tear, every dream.”

Tenisha said the couple would have celebrated their wedding anniversary this weekend, and she announced the start of the Warner Family Foundation.
“Today, in his honor, my daughter and I are launching River & Ember and officially opening The Warner Family Foundation.” she wrote. “Together we carry the legacy my husband and I began — one that nurtures children’s inner light and gives young artists the freedom to create outside the lines.”
She concluded, “This is love. Still moving. Still making. Still carrying us forward.”
Malcolm-Jamal Warner died after he was suddenly swept away by a strong current while swimming in the ocean at Playa Cocles in Costa Rica’s Limon province, authorities said.
His cause of death was ruled accidental “asphyxia by submersion.”
Warner was a former child actor, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, which aired on NBC from 1984 to 1992.
Throughout his career, he had parts on more than 60 different television shows, according to his IMDb page.
He also directed episodes of The Cosby Show, All That, Keenan & Kel, and Sesame Street; and was a Grammy Award-winning bass player.
