Love Island USA contestant Cierra Ortega has been sent home after getting swept up in a racism storm.
Narrator Iain Stirling broke the news that Cierra was gone during Sunday’s episode of the Peacock reality dating series.
“Cierra has left the villa due to a personal situation,” Stirling said cryptically about her exit from season 7 of the American version of the franchise.
Ortega, 25, was coupled up with Nic Vansteenberghe, 24. Now he’s “officially single,” but has other options, as the season nears its conclusion.
Peacock did not immediately respond to Urban Hollywood 411‘s request for comment on Cierra’s departure.
Earlier this season, Yulissa Escobar left the villa after fans uncovered clips of her using the N-word during a podcast interview. “Now I’m f–king my [N-word], he’s my [N-word], like bye!” she said in a video shared on Reddit.
Meantime, Cierra’s exit comes after social media sleuths resurfaced a now-viral Instagram Story. It included a picture of a woman, said to be Cierra, sitting in the chair at a doctor’s office, with a caption about getting Botox and used a racial slur about Asian people.
“Botox isn’t for everyone but I love it for me!!! I am incredibly expressive with my face and I catch myself frowning for no reason throughout the day when I’m focusing on something or thinking too hard lol. I can also be a little ch—ky when I laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look,” the caption read.
Cierra is a digital content creator of Puerto Rican and Mexican heritage, according to published reports. Originally from Arizona, she lives in Los Angeles.
Her LinkedIn bio says she graduated from the University of Arizona and works on marketing campaigns for major brands, including Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Savage X Fenty: Lingerie by Rihanna. Fans said she should know better than using a racial slur, especially on a public platform.
On Sunday, July 6, her parents released a lengthy statement via Cierra’s Instagram account, saying the family has received “threats” and asked for “compassion.”
“We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what’s happening online right now has gone far beyond that,” the statement read.
“The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters, it’s heartbreaking,” the statement continued. “We know our daughter. We know her heart. And when she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth, and grace… Until then, we’re simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency. Not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this. Thank you to those who’ve continued to show love, even when it’s not easy.”
