Lil Nas X is currently “in treatment” at an undisclosed location following his nude stroll down a Los Angeles street and subsequent arrest, his attorneys said Monday.
The rapper, born Montero Hill, was scheduled to attend a Sept. 15 preliminary hearing at the Van Nuys Courthouse in L.A.
Instead, defense attorneys Drew Findling and Christy O’Connor confirmed the music star was “not present” because he is being treated in another state.
Urban Hollywood 411 was in the courtroom Monday as Superior Court Judge Shellie Samuels told the defense, “He is allowed to remain out of state as long as he is in treatment.”
The judge added that the rapper’s $75,000 bond will remain in place, and she signed a motion to keep the location of Hill’s treatment under seal.
Findling spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.
“Obviously you heard the ‘treatment’ word. We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his well-being,” he said.
The attorney added, “He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. And we’re just addressing those issues. It’s really as simple as that. He’s had a great life, he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s going to get over and on behalf of him, his family is making sure that he addresses all those issues right now.”
The “Old Town Road” rapper was taken into custody early Aug. 21, after Los Angeles police officers responded to calls about a “nude man walking in the street.”
TMZ obtained video of Hill singing, dancing, and walking down the middle of Ventura Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A., wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots.
A second video later posted to the X platform showed him barefoot and nude.
Prosecutors alleged Hill assaulted several police officers who tried to detain him, leaving at least three injured. The music star was eventually taken into custody and transported to a hospital amid concerns that he might have been suffering from a drug overdose.
He was charged with four felonies — three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman issued a sharply-worded statement calling Hill a “threat” to public safety.
The rapper pleaded not guilty during an Aug. 25 court appearance. At the time, defense attorney Christy O’Connor told the judge there was no evidence drugs were involved.
If convicted as charged, Hill faces up to five years in state prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 18.
