West Coast rap legend Kurupt has received an outpouring of prayers after news surfaced that he’s been battling serious health problems.
On Monday, Jan. 12, his longtime collaborator Daz Dillinger uploaded a post on Instagram and asked his friends and followers to keep Kurupt in their prayers.
“GOD SAID WE SHALL LIVE & NOT DIE. Want to send a big shout out to my big brother @official_kurupt, get well speedy recovery need all FANZ to send kurupt a get well message,” the post read.
Dozens of people replied to the post, saying they were praying for the rapper.
The next day, TMZ reported Kurupt was in a hospital battling “serious health issues.” The outlet said he had been hospitalized “for weeks,” although sources told the outlet he was “on the mend.” Those sources declined to give details on his specific condition.
Kurupt, 53, was born Ricardo Emmanuel Brown in Philadelphia before moving to Southern California as a teenager.
He formed Tha Dogg Pound in 1992 with Daz Dillinger, and the two were among the first acts to sign with Death Row Records.
They released several albums and were known for their hit singles “Let’s Play House” and “New York, New York” featuring Snoop Dogg.
The two were also featured on Snoop’s 1993 album Doggystyle and on Tupac Shakur’s 1996 album All Eyez on Me. Dillinger produced some of the songs on Tupac’s album.
