Kimberly Hebert Gregory Dies: ‘Vice Principals’ and ‘Craig of the Creek’ Star Was 52

Kimberly Hébert Gregory, an actress best known for her work on the HBO comedy series Vice Principals and Cartoon Network’s Craig of the Creek, has died. She was 52.

Gregory passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, her former husband Chester Gregory shared on social media. Chester included a heartfelt tribute and a gallery of photos in his post on Instagram.

“You were brilliance embodied, a Black woman whose mind lit every room, whose presence carried both fire and grace,” he wrote in the caption. “You taught us lessons in courage, in artistry, in resilience, and in how to keep showing up, even when life demanded more than its share.”

No cause of death was given. Urban Hollywood 411 reached out to a rep for the actress, but there was no immediate response.

Chester’s Instagram post was filled with comments and tributes, including from some of Kimberly’s former co-stars.

Yvette Nicole Brown and Jason Ritter, who worked with her on the ABC comedy Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, remembered her as “brilliant” and “kind.”

“I am so sorry… absolutely heartbreaking. She was so brilliant and so kind, she will be so so missed by all of us lucky enough to know her,” Ritter commented.

“I don’t understand this. I’m so sorry for you and your son’s loss @chestergregory. And OUR loss as a community,” added Brown.

Walton Goggins, who starred on Vice Principals, posted a separate tribute on his Instagram page.

“One of the best I’ve ever worked with. Kimberly Hebert Gregory. I had the honor… the good fortune of getting to know, getting to spend months working with this Queen on Vice Principals. She made me laugh like no other. A professional’s professional,” Goggins wrote.

The actress was born in Houston on Dec. 7, 1972. After graduating from high school, she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and earned a master’s in social work from the University of Chicago.

She appeared in theater productions in Chicago before pivoting to film and TV.

According to her IMDb page, her first movie role was in the 2007 Chris Rock-directed comedy I Think I Love My Wife. She also had a small part in Spike Lee’s 2012 film Red Hook Summer.

Her acting resume included guest roles on Gossip Girl, New Amsterdam, Law & Order, Private Practice, Two and a Half Men, Shameless, The Big Bang Theory, and Devious Maids.

In 2016, she was cast as a series regular as high school principal Dr. Belinda Brown, on Vice Principals. The show ran for two seasons on HBO.

The actress additionally had parts on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Better Call Saul, The Chi, and most recently she voiced multiple roles over 42 episodes of the animated Cartoon Network series, Craig of the Creek.

Kimberly was mom to one son, according to Chester’s Instagram post.
