Churchy is stepping up its game for season 2 — with new characters and new storylines.

At the red carpet premiere kicking off the new season of the BET+ comedy in Los Angeles on Aug. 19, the cast talked about what fans can expect.

Creator and series lead Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks said some of the focus will shift away from his character Pastor Corey Carr Jr.

“Season 1 was very Corey-centric. He was taking over the church, and we were following him every episode and every step of the way. Season 2, you’ve got Corey, you’ve got ‘Bree,’ who’s a new character, new love interest,” Fredericks told Urban Hollywood 411.

Jasmine Luv joins the cast as Breanna ‘Bree’ Beverly, the flirtatious owner of Bree’s Diner, who has a soft spot for Corey.

Luv told us she was “a little nervous” about joining an already established show, but said “it was fun” working with the cast.

Tahir Moore, who plays former hustler “Calvin Crooks,” showed off his vocal skills on the red carpet and said to expect “foolishness” from Calvin in the new season.

“It’s going to be hilarity. I really feel like this has the potential to be one of those shows, like Martin, where people remember specific episodes and have characters that they remember. It’s just amazing to get excited about this again,” said Moore.

KevOnStage noted that “Mother Jean” (Lexi Allen) and “Pastor Stinney” (Anthony Elfonzia) will get more screen time this season, and politics will play a bigger role.

“I think it’s a bigger show, bigger world. We’ve kind of pulled back [on Corey]. In the first season it was Corey, the church and his family,” he said. “This season you got the church, Corey, his friends, the city, local politics, just a bigger world and therefore more funny stories.”

Churchy follows Pastor Carr after he takes over leadership of Bethlehem Temple — along with the church’s debts. He and his unqualified church crew find themselves navigating the daily headaches of leading a congregation, while fending off a rival’s plan to replace the church with a trampoline park.

Nic Few joins the cast as “Pastor Teddy.” Guest stars in the new season include Tabitha Brown as “Mayor Dana Wilson,” Kirk Franklin as an inmate named “Freight Train,” viral food critic Keith Lee as himself, and Tony Baker as businessman Mavericks West.

The comedy is executive produced by Kevin Fredericks, Melissa Fredericks, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Lezlie Wills.

Richard A. Washington and David Murphy are writers and Jared Leaf directs.

All 10 episodes of Churchy season 2 began streaming Thursday, Aug. 21 on BET+.
