Rymir Satterthwaite, the man who claims to be Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s biological son, dropped his lawsuit demanding a court-ordered paternity test, but says his battle is far from over.
Satterthwaite has for years alleged Jay-Z hooked up with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in 1992 when she was only 16 and the up-and-coming rapper was 22.
In May 2025, he filed a federal lawsuit against the “99 Problems” rapper in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In their response, Jay-Z’s legal team called Satterthwaite’s claims “fabricated allegations.”
Vibe reported Satterthwaite submitted a notice of withdrawal to the court on July 18. The social media account Lawyered Up posted a copy of the notice on the X platform.

Amid speculation that there had been some type of settlement in the case, Satterthwaite took to Instagram Live on July 26, and posted a video statement saying his battle would eventually continue.
“It’s been a crazy couple weeks. I just want to let y’all know, I have not stopped my fight,” he stated. “I did withdraw my case. It’s for a reason, y’all. It’s not ’cause I’m stopping with it or not gonna refile it or anything like that. It’s just a lot going on behind closed doors. That’s only one case that we withdrew for right now.”
Satterthwaite did not give specifics on what might be going on, but said taking on powerful people was difficult.
“These judges, these lawyers, these celebrity people, they try to use all different types of tactics, bully tactics and different types of stuff to slow it down and change the narrative,” he said. “We gotta step back and play chess, not checkers… I have not gotten any settlement or anything like that.”
He added later in the video, “It’s not over y’all.”
In their June 16 response obtained by E!, Jay-Z’s lawyers blasted Satterthwaite’s latest court filing and accused him of a decades-long “harassment” campaign.
“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed—and rejected—in multiple other courts,” their filing said.
Since 2010, Satterthwaite has been trying to get Jay-Z to take a paternity test, but he previously lost in court.
In a 2018 interview with The Sun, Satterthwaite provided a copy of his birth certificate and no father was listed. The aspiring musician told the outlet he wanted clarity about his background.
“I don’t want money or anything like that from Jay-Z,” he said. “I just want him to finally tell the truth to the world.”
Jay-Z is dad to daughter Blue Ivy, and twins Rumi and Sir with wife Beyoncé.
