‘Him’ Trailer: Marlon Wayans Takes Dramatic Turn as a Demented Quarterback

“In this game, violence is rewarded,” Marlon Wayans warns in the trailer for Jordan Peele’s new horror thriller Him.

Universal Pictures released the preview for the film — which also stars former college wide-receiver Tyriq Withers (Atlanta) — on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

Withers plays “Cameron Cade,” a rising quarterback whose dreams of greatness are nearly cut short when he’s attacked by an unhinged fan before the annual football scouting Combine.

Cam begins to put his life back together, and eight-time championship quarterback Isaiah White (Wayans) offers to train him at his isolated compound. But what seems like a lifeline turns into a twisted game on the field.

“As Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for,” according to the official description.

The cast also includes Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, MMA fighter Maurice Greene, and hip-hop artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack in their feature film debuts.

Justin Tipping (Run the World and Kicks) directs from a script he worked on with Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Producers include Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson, and Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions.

Last month Wayans discussed the film on the “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast.

Him is a different kind of movie. I think people are seeing me in a different kind of way,” the actor and comedian told host Keke Palmer at the 44:00 minute mark.

“Justin Tipping is the director, wonderful director… he’s gonna be somebody. I just had a great time,” Wayans added before noting that Tipping brought out a side of him fans have never seen before.

“I just think it’s the most untethered I’ve been in a movie, in a dramatic way that’s grounded, but crazy,” he added.

Him arrives in theaters on Sept. 19.
