Teyana Taylor shed tears, thanked her family, and sent a heartfelt message to “little brown girls” on Sunday night at the Golden Globe Awards.
Taylor picked up the best supporting female actor in a motion picture award for her performance as revolutionary fighter “Perfidia” in One Battle After Another.
The singer and actress was overcome with emotion when she heard her name called, and admitted she was shocked that she beat out her fellow nominees — Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine), Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Amy Madigan (Weapons), and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value).
“I almost didn’t even write a speech because I didn’t think I would get this,” Taylor said through tears.

The New York native told the audience her young daughters Iman “Junie” Tayla and Rue Rose, were upstairs at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
“Oh my babies, my babies are upstairs watching. Y’all better be off them damn phones and watching me right now!” she said to laughter.
Taylor, 35, mentioned the lessons she’s learned and the tests she’s faced. While she wasn’t specific about those tests, Taylor and former husband, NBA star Iman Shumpert, finalized their bitter divorce in July 2024.
The actress thanked her parents for attending the ceremony with her, praised her director Paul Thomas Anderson for his “vision, trust and brilliance,” thanked the film’s crew, and her co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall.
Taylor ended her speech with a heartfelt message for fellow “brown sisters and little brown girls.”
“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much,” she said. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. “Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
