The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards brought historic moments, jokes from Stephen Colbert about canceling his late-night show, and a Cosby Show alum fondly remembering her TV son.
Severance actor Tramell Tillman made history as the first Black man to win an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.

The actor faced touched competition in the category, including from some of his co-stars.

Tramell Tillman Tells Audience ‘Look at God!’

After taking the stage, Tillman dedicated his acceptance speech to his mom, who was seated in the audience, and shared some of her words of wisdom.
“Do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y’all, but all great mothers are,” he said.
“Mama, you were there for me when no one else was, and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you,” he continued. “Thank you to the academy. I am full. I am humbled. I am honored. And as my mama would say, ‘Whew, look at God!’”
In another Emmys first, 15-year-old Adolescence star Owen Cooper became the youngest performer to ever win the Emmy for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series.
The English teenager said in his speech, “Standing up here is just, wow, it’s so surreal.”
Cooper plays a teenager arrested for killing a classmate who rejected his romantic advances, in the disturbing Netflix drama. Adolescence won a total of six awards on Sunday night, including best limited or anthology series.
Stephen Colbert Celebrates Win With Staff

The star-studded audience at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles rose to its feet when Stephen Colbert won the Emmy for outstanding talk series for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“I want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege of being part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we’re no longer doing this show,” Colbert said in his acceptance speech.
The late-night host picked up the trophy just two months after CBS announced the show will end in 2026. The decision came as the network’s parent company Paramount sought to get the Trump administration to approve an $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. The left-leaning Colbert has frequently criticized Trump.
Earlier in the show, the comedian told the Emmys audience he and his 200 staffers are looking for work. He brought along his decades-old headshot, just in case.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner Honored

Cosby Show star Phylicia Rashad opened the In Memoriam segment by remembering her former co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The actor drowned while swimming in Costa Rica on July 20. He was 54 years old.
“He was a beloved teenager in an iconic television series, who the world watched grow into manhood,” Rashad said. “And like all of our friends and colleagues who transitioned in the past year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner remains in our hearts.”
Other stars honored in the segment included John Amos, Quincy Jones, Julian McMahon, Teri Garr, Ozzy Osbourne, Anne Burrell, Bill Moyers, George Wendt, Richard Chamberlain, Michelle Trachtenberg, and David Lynch.
The 77th Emmy Awards aired live on CBS from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Comedian Nate Bargatze hosted the ceremony, which was executive produced by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment.
The telecast featured awards in 26 Emmy categories. Additionally Ted Danson and wife Mary Steenburgen were honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
The majority of this year’s Emmys were presented last weekend, with awards handed out in 97 categories at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7. An edited version of those awards is currently available on FXX until Oct. 7.
