While some actors are deliriously happy after Tuesday’s Emmy nominations, a few others are probably wondering why they were snubbed.

Votes for the Emmy Awards come from members of the Television Academy. For some performers, the nominations produced pleasant surprises. Chief among those was a nod for The Residence star Uzo Aduba, two weeks after the freshman comedy was canceled.

Other surprises included Anthony Mackie picking up a guest actor in a comedy series nomination for The Studio; Colman Domingo’s supporting actor in a comedy series nod for The Four Seasons; and Beyoncé’s two nominations for her NFL Christmas GameDay halftime show known as “Beyoncé Bowl.”

But the results brought a bit of unfortunate news for others. Hospital drama The Pitt saw worthy contender Tracy Ifeachor shut out of the nominations. Last week TV Line reported she would not return for season 2 of the acclaimed series because of “creative” differences.

Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang earned a nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. But longest-running SNL cast member Kenan Thompson was shut out of the competition, as were Ego Nwodim, Michael Che and Colin Jost.

Jamie Foxx was omitted from the outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) category for his groundbreaking Netflix stand-up special What Had Happened Was, that featured the Oscar winner singing, speaking candidly, and using humor to reveal details about his 2023 medical emergency.

Instead, nominees in the category were Adam Sandler: Love You (Netflix), Ali Wong: Single Lady (Netflix); Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years (Hulu); Conan O’Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize For American Humor (Netflix), Sarah Silverman: Postmortem (Netflix), and Your Friend, Nate Bargatze (Netflix)

Bargatze is set to host the 77th Emmy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
