A federal judge has rejected the latest request by Sean “Diddy” Combs to be released on bail ahead of his Oct. 3 sentencing on two prostitution-related convictions.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian handed down the ruling at the end of the day on Monday, Aug. 4.
“Combs fails to satisfy his burden to demonstrate an entitlement to release. The motion for bail is denied,” Subramanian wrote according to journalist and attorney Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press, who was among the first to report on the ruling.
The judge said Combs failed to prove he was not a danger to the public or a flight risk, as prosecutors had argued in their response to the mogul’s request to be released on $50 million bond.

The judge’s decision came one day after the music mogul’s ex-girlfriend Virginia “Gina” Huynh wrote a letter to the court insisting Combs was not “a danger” to the community.
Combs’ attorneys submitted the letter to the judge. Huynh admitted their relationship was “not always perfect,” but said the mogul had changed and is now a devoted family man.
“To my knowledge, he has not been violent for many years and he has committed to being a father first,” the letter read.
Huynh’s statements were in contrast to comments she made in a 2019 interview with podcaster Tasha K, when the influencer alleged Combs had physically abused her for five years and forced her to have an abortion.
“He stomped on my stomach really hard — like, took the wind out of my breath,” she alleged at the time.
In the interview, Huynh struggled to express herself and mixed up words. Yet her letter was eloquently written.
She had been scheduled to testify in the mogul’s sex trafficking trial but was a no-show.
Prosecutors identified her as “Victim 3” in the federal indictment, but later told the judge they were unable to find her or her attorney.
On July 2, a federal jury in Manhattan convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution involving his ex-girlfriends Cassie Ventura and a woman using the pseudonym “Jane Doe.” However, he was acquitted of three more serious racketeering and sex trafficking counts.
That same day, Judge Subramanian denied the mogul’s $1 million bail request after receiving letters from alleged victims saying they feared for their lives.
Combs’ attorneys submitted another bail request on July 29, proposing $50 million bond backed by Combs’ Florida estate.
His legal team argued that it was unfair the Bad Boy Records founder remained jailed while others “involved in this identical conduct — his girlfriends, the “cowboys,” the agency’s leaders, the porn stars and others — walk free.”
The rapper and producer remains jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York while he awaits sentencing.
He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years for each prostitution count.
